Affirmation of Welcome

  • Believing that Christ’s welcome is unconditional (1)

  • Believing that in that unconditional welcome we have access to God’s saving love (2)

  • Believing that God’s unconditional saving love is for the whole world (3)

The members of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, West Long Branch, publicly affirm their welcome of all who seek to experience God’s saving love through the proclamation of God’s Word and the reception of the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

We specifically affirm our welcome of LGBTQIA+ people and people of any race, marital status or history, political affiliation or any other such human invention, and we commit ourselves to striving for racial equity in the Church and society. As we have done since before it was legal throughout the United States, we commit ourselves to allow our sanctuary and community space to be used for LGBTQIA+ weddings and blessings.

We further commit ourselves to be open to calling LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC (Black, Brown, Indigenous, Person of Color) Rostered Leaders.

All are welcome just as God has made them.

  1. Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7)

  2. Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; (Romans 5:1-2b)

  3. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:16-17)
